STFC is committed to developing a sustainable approach to ED&I across all of our activities and practices as an employer, funder and partner. The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) Advisory Board has been created to provide challenge and advice in developing STFC as an inclusive workplace with practices, policies and processes that promote equality, diversity and inclusion across all of our functions. The Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Board will be chaired by Professor Sheila Rowan, Chief Scientific Adviser to the Scottish Government and report directly to Council.

STFC is currently looking to recruit members to its newly created ED&I External Advisory Board. There are up to 5 independent, non-executive positions available. The term of membership will ordinarily be for two years, commencing September 2019. Members are asked to attend meetings twice a year with other business conducted via email. Please note, these roles are not remunerated.

We anticipate the board will comprise experts from across the public, private and charitable sectors, nationally and internationally. Members will be selected based on a demonstrable track record of achievement in challenging and progressing ED&I within/for similar and/or complex organisations. We encourage candidates with diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply.
STFC will operate an anonymised shortlisting process. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a competency based interview. After interviews have been conducted and where applicants are as qualified on merit, the selection panel will seek to achieve a balanced membership in terms of diversity, expertise and experience.
The meeting of the ED&I External Board Meeting will take place in September 2019.
