Tara Shears is Professor of Physics at the University of Liverpool. She is an experimental particle physicist, and focuses on testing the Standard Model at the high energy frontier with the LHCb experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. Previously, she performed research on the CDF experiment at Fermilab’s Tevatron Collider, and the OPAL and ATLAS experiments at CERN. Her interests lie in testing the limits of electroweak and strong Standard Model predictions, and in heavy flavour physics.
She studied at Imperial College London (BSc 1991), and the University of Cambridge (PhD 1995). She held PPARC postdoctoral (University of Manchester), CERN and Royal Society University Research fellowships (University of Liverpool) prior to being appointed to University of Liverpool academic staff in 2007.
Tara has served on committees within the UK and abroad. She was a recent chair of the STFC Education, Training and Careers Committee (ETCC). She also undertakes a wide programme of public engagement.
