National Laboratories: Large Scale Facilities
Alan joined Rolls-Royce in 2011 where he has held a number of senior positions including Global Head of Material Engineering, Chief Project Engineer, Chief of Materials and Head of Laboratories. During his time with Rolls-Royce, Alan lead the Materials Science and Engineering function, and the Laboratory and the Manufacturing Services function which was located across five global sites.
Before working for Rolls-Royce, Alan spent 7 years as the Chief Executive Officer for National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC), where he was responsible for securing multi-million pounds UK and European science and technology programmes. He established a series of industry networks covering the Aerospace, Defence, Nuclear, Energy, bio-medical and Advanced Materials industries; and worked in partnership with Oxford Innovation to establish the Innovation and Technology Centre.
Alan spent over 5 years working as a Technical Director for DERA Farnborough (now QinetiQ) before securing the Chief Executive Officer role at Firth Rixson Forgings, where he was responsible for developing the company’s technical strategy and the development of new opportunities into the Aerospace, Automotive, Energy and Nuclear sectors.
Alan’s career has spanned science and engineering in academia, industry and the public sector and he has well established networks within UK government.
