Science and Technology Strategy

The Science Roadmap and Technology Strategy provide a framework to focus our investments.

We consult with the science community and work with Science Board to understand the priorities for the programme.

This helps us to ensure our programme remains at the forefront of science and technology we support.

We regularly review our strategies and our current programme. We do this through our advisory structure (including Science Board), direct consultation with the community and our Programmatic Review.

Key facts

Technology underpins our strategic goals and is core to a successful delivery of our mission. Our technology strategy (PDF - 69kB - link opens in a new window) sets out our ambitious aims for technology development in the long term. Whilst specific deliverables may change over time, this framework provides our technology programme with long term vision and focus to help us achieve greater impact for both STFC science and the UK.

Our technology strategy is based around three strategic goals that encapsulate the underlying philosophy for this strategy:

  1. STFC will develop technology first and foremost to underpin STFC’s science and facilities;
  2. STFC will strategically manage a technology programme encompassing blue-skies R&D to working systems;
  3. STFC will support exploitation technology developed for STFC’s science and facilities for other applications and through industry.
