The European Southern Observatory awards several postdoctoral fellowships each year in both Garching (Germany) and Santiago (Chile). The fellowship programme provides an invaluable training opportunity for the next generation of astronomers and users of ESO facilities, and enhances the research programmes of young scientists by facilitating close contact between young astronomers and staff at one of the world’s foremost observatories. The application deadline for postdoctoral fellowships each year is October 15.
ESO also offers a range of research student programmes which aim at providing opportunities for PhD students to obtain experience by being in close contact with professional astronomers and world leading facilities. These studentships are located both in Germany and Chile and are open to students enrolled in a university PhD programme, preferentially but not necessarily in an ESO member state. Additionally, ESO offers two studentship positions per year at ESO Santiago for students enrolled in Chilean universities.
More information of the various programmes can be found on the ESO website.
