Major New Projects (PPRP) - focus on major new projects that are considered to have significant scientific priority in particle physics, nuclear physics, astronomy, particle astrophysics and solar system science. Examples of these include participation in new experiments or missions, the development of new instruments or upgrades to existing detectors. Applicants should submit a statement of interest in the first instance, and proposers may subsequently be invited to submit a full proposal to the Project Peer Review Panel (PPRP) for assessment.
21st Century Challenge schemes (formerly the STFC Global Challenge Programme) - which provide funding to create new multidisciplinary research communities and to support small scale proof of concept projects to show that STFC expertise and technology can be applied to 21st Century Challenges.
IPS Fellowship – which is designed to support a knowledge exchange and commercialisation (KEC) professional in a position at a UK university in developing innovation and impact from its STFC-funded research outputs.
Follow on Fund - which is intended to provide financial support at the very early or pre-seed stage of turning research outputs into a commercial proposition.
Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) - which supports cutting-edge research that addresses the challenges faced by developing countries through: challenge-led disciplinary and interdisciplinary research; strengthening capacity for research and innovation within both the UK and developing countries and providing an agile response to emergencies where there is an urgent research need.
Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund – which is a fund to strengthen UK science and business innovation and take on the biggest challenges that society and industries face today.
Ernest Rutherford Fellowships – which will enable early career researchers with clear leadership potential to establish a strong, independent research programme. They will encourage talented researchers in UK universities to remain in the country and at the same time attract outstanding overseas researchers to the UK.
STFC Horizons Programme - The STFC Horizons Programme aims to proactively build and support collaborations between STFC, UKRI, and external partners to enable our community to be an active partner in strategically selected, multi-disciplinary programmes.
