This year’s Cryogenic Cluster Day, at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory on Wednesday September 23rd, will follow a pattern similar to previous years, comprising a mix of seminar, table-top trade show, a poster session, and lab visits. Free for delegates to attend, thanks to the support of STFC & contribution from exhibitors, it is a highlight of the British Cryogenic Calendar, with an audience well over 100 from UK & abroad.
Cambridge University has been breaking trapped magnetic field records with superconductors, and Mark Ainslie will bring this year’s Cluster Day up to date on their work, followed by a talk from Susie Speller on work with superconductors at Oxford University. Wrapping up the morning session, and completing the link from the UK Magnetic Society on HTS applications the day before, Paul Noonan from Tokamak Energy will repeat his talk on HTS Tokamaks.
We’re making the brand new RAL Space R100 Development & Test Building opened in July the venue for this year’s Poster Session. It’s a seven-minute walk from the Lecture Theatre, and well worth the walk - with the attraction of morning coffee too when you get there. It will give you a taste of what’s to come in this outstanding facility.
This year’s Exhibition will be buzzing with the following participants:
Being a Live Research Lab, we will only confirm all the optional lab visits closer to Cluster Day, but for now we can confirm that there will be the option after lunch to visit the new Metal 3D Printing facility as well as the Main Cryo Lab.
This year we will close with a kaleidoscope of talks from industry, science, education and research. Rob Watson from Truflo Marine Valves will explain cryogenic hull penetration systems for air-independent submarines. Owain Johns will talk about his new University Technical College - the first High School in the world with a Cryo Lab and Curriculum ? Shrikant Pattalwar wants to alert us to the scale of industrial opportunity associated with superconducting RF Cavities. And finally Daveena Danabalan will present recent research identifying additional availability of helium associated with groundwater.
It would be great to have you join us on Cluster Day this year, with registration from 9.30 and first talks at 10. Register here fast, or get in touch to submit posters.
