On tour

STFC supports the UK science community with touring exhibitions that feature life-size replicas and scale models of awe-inspiring experiments, informative displays, topical science images, hardware, animations and interactive exhibits that describe the lives of our scientists at home and abroad. Through the use of eye-catching visuals and hands-on exhibits, visitors can discover what researchers hope to learn from the world’s most sophisticated scientific experiments.

The Roadshows

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC)

Our LHC exhibition features a life-sized, walk-through section of the LHC tunnel and accelerator, along with interactive exhibits and digital media that highlight what scientists hope to learn in the next phase of operation of the world’s biggest science experiment.

You can see the LHC Roadshow at:

  • University of Swansea Oriel science exhibition centre, 1 November until July 2017

The Incredible Power of Light: Lasers

The exhibition features a walk-through of Vulcan–one of the world’s most powerful laser facilities, informative artwork and a live laser show. It explores STFC’s Central Laser Facility, a world-leading laser laboratory that provides scientists from around the world with an unparalleled range of state-of-the-art laser technology to carry out pioneering experiments.

You can see the Lasers roadshow at:

  • Satrosphere Science Centre, Aberdeen, 27 March – 31 May 2017

This exhibition showcases the ‘Big Telescopes’ family of ground and space-based telescopes. It features scale models of the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope (VLT), Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) antenna, the European Space Agency’s Herschel Observatory and James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). The Roadshow explores the lives of astronomers who observe our Universe.

You can see the Big Telescopes roadshow at:

  • International Centre for Life, Newcastle upon Tyne, 11 January – 27 April 2017
