Budding young scientists enjoy Space Explorers Day

9 October 2018

Children from six local primary schools visited STFC’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire on Friday as part of World Space Week.

The popular event saw 150 youngsters from years five and six welcomed to the site for a series of space-themed activities.

RAL Space cosmologist Chris Pearson began the day with an exciting interactive talk on space science, before the visitors enjoyed a planetarium show, a constellation challenge and acted as mineral detectives, drilling through layers of chocolate and learning how we can use satellites to help us with geological research.

The event was supported by RAL Space and Satellite Applications Catapult, and also featured the launch of the new UK National Satellite Test Facility art competition.

More information on the competition is available online.
