STFC congratulates our colleagues Dr Paul Collier, Professor David Southwood, Dr Jessica Wade and STFC partner David Parr on being honoured in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list 2019.
Dr Paul Collier, Head of Beams at CERN, has been awarded an OBE in the diplomatic service and overseas list, for services to science and technology. The honour recognises his work on the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.
Physicist Dr Jess Wade was awarded a British Empire Medal for services to gender diversity in science. She was recognised for her work promoting women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), including writing hundreds of Wikipedia pages to highlight women scientists.
Professor David Southwood has been awarded a CBE for services to space science and industry. Professor Southwood was chair of the Steering Board of the UK Space Agency until March 2019 and is a former president of the Royal Astronomical Society. He was also Director of Science at the European Space Agency, responsible for all astronomy and space missions.
David Parr, Chief Executive of Halton Borough Council was awarded an OBE for services to local government in Cheshire. Halton Borough Council is a partner in Sci-Tech Daresbury, STFC’s national science and innovation campus in Cheshire.
