UK Science in the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Conference Park, University of Birmingham
The first UKSKASC meeting took place at Conference Park, University of Birmingham, and was a great success. We had over 50 attendees at the meeting, who watched some great presentations covering a range of topics from the current project status of the SKA, followed by eight talks covering the transformational science that will be possible with the SKA; this includes testing Einstein’s General Relativity Theory with Pulsars through to identifying the building blocks of Life. The day closed with a Q&A session between the speakers and the audience who could ask anything they wanted regarding the SKA.
The speakers have supplied their talks and they are available to view below. The speaker in order were:
|2||SKA Science||Paul Alexander||Cambridge University|
|3||Cosmology||Filipe Abdalla||University College London|
|4||Epoch of Reionisation||Jonathan Pritchard||Imperial College, London|
|5||Extra Galactic Astronomy from Continuum to HI||Matt Jarvis||Oxford University|
|6||Magnetism + Cosmic Rays||Justin Bray||Southampton University|
|7||Pulsars||Mike Keith||Manchester University|
|8||Cradle of Life||Melvin Hoare||Leeds University|
|9||Transients||Rob Fender||Oxford University|
I would like to thank the STFC organisers, the Speakers for their excellent talks and everyone who attended.
