ISIS Neutron and Muon Source Instruments


The Advanced RIKEN General-Purpose MuSR Spectrometer (ARGUS) is part of the RIKEN-RAL muon facility owned and operated by the Japanese RIKEN institute. It is a high data rate muon spectrometer with 192 detector elements.


Instrument for rapid testing of effects of high energy neutrons on electronic components. Currently under construction and due to see first neutrons in early 2014, with user operation starting in Spring 2015.


A polarised beam reflectometer for studying interfacial effects in soft matter, life sciences and condensed matter.


Dedicated engineering science diffractometer, optimized for the measurement of strain, and thus stress, deep within a crystalline material to investigate properties such as fatigue resistance, fracture toughness and strength.

High-intensity chemical interfaces reflectometer offering a unique facility for the study of a range of air/liquid, liquid/liquid, air/solid, and liquid/solid interfaces.

MERLIN is a high intensity chopper spectrometer for studies of magnetic and lattice excitations at thermal energies. There is an increasing interest in chemistry and catalysis.
